I love this concept art. Mermaids are pretty cliche anymore so it’s great to see something so different.
Lately I’ve been doing color tests on Photoshop, Figure/Shading tests in my sketchbooks, and crosswords to keep my mind limber. I’m tired of being stagnant and the quality of work I’m producing is not to my liking. I have more work to do but progress is being made.
Dear everyone on the internet,
This picture is stupid and you are stupid for liking it so much. It projects a hypocrisy that doesn’t actually exist. Nobody is saying “down with corporations”. Nobody wants to get rid of corporations. That’s retarded. Yeah, hippies suck, and the drum circles certainly aren’t helping the cause, but that’s not what this is about. It’s not a big LEGALIZE IT wank-off where the protesters’ demands are free love and “oh, yeah, totally legalize it”. There are hippies, yes, but there are also tons of hardworking citizens who actually contribute to society. Or, at least, they would contribute to society if they could get a job or didn’t lose their house or weren’t hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt. These are people with legitimate hardships and concerns who are actively trying to change the system that is spitting in their faces. They’re not even trying to fix a system that has failed them. The system didn’t fail, because it’s a system that was made to benefit that 1%. It’s working splendidly for those who made it.
When this first started, I was really baffled by it. No demands? No point? No anything? What the hell, you hippies!? But as the days and weeks go by, I’m more and more fascinated by the fact that there is no concrete demand or purpose beyond “Fuck this shit.” Sometimes instead of protesting, you just have to throw a tantrum to get the attention your cause needs. Sometimes you have to get mad as hell and you have to not take it anymore. Because, seriously, fuck this shit. I don’t want to see the end of corporations, because I’m not a fucking idiot and I love all of the gadgets and food that corporations provide. But I do want to see a change in the way corporations and those who run them are treated. Here are just a few of the bullet points from Occupy Wall Street’s first release. It is against corporations, yes, but there’s no intent to “bring them down”. Because, again, that’s retarded.
- They have used the military and police force to prevent freedom of the press.
- They have taken bailouts from taxpayers with impunity, and continue to give Executives exorbitant bonuses.
- They have poisoned the food supply through negligence, and undermined the farming system through monopolization.
- They have held students hostage with tens of thousands of dollars of debt on education, which is itself a human right.
- They have consistently outsourced labor and used that outsourcing as leverage to cut workers’ healthcare and pay.
- They have influenced the courts to achieve the same rights as people, with none of the culpability or responsibility.
- They have donated large sums of money to politicians supposed to be regulating them.
- They continue to block alternate forms of energy to keep us dependent on oil.
- They continue to block generic forms of medicine that could save people’s lives in order to protect investments that have already turned a substantive profit.
It’s fun and easy to mock things you don’t understand or something that is, on the surface, stupid. I do it all the time, for a living. This is something else, though, and you should probably start paying attention to it, because tomorrow it will be a bigger something else, and the next day it will be an even bigger something else.
down with corporations? lol what a bunch of morons have fun tweeting that from your ipads losers,
Cody

artists…can we move on from using Star Wars and Super Mario in Pop art please?…it’s done.
Oh Pretty Please!!!!
Doodle of the day. Really need to loosen up in the posing when I draw characters. He looks too rigid for my liking. But I am pleased with the expression on his face.
A three panel “jungle animal” piece is what I’ve been working on these past few months. A couple friends of mine are having a baby (had their baby) and wanted a painting for their nursery. I kept having to tell myself to go ‘cute’ and not so realistic. Screwed my brain up, man! Not too used to acrylics but they’re easy enough to get the hang of pretty quickly. And no, that’s is not all the farther I am on the project, this was taken a long time ago. Just haven’t taken many ‘in progress’ shots since.
#Rant
I am going to get back to using this real soon. I’m wrapping up a project and will get back to my own personal work real soon. Plus I have a lot more free time since I switched jobs; I now have nights and weekends off! Luckily I also still have lots of motivation to work on my projects and an awesome girlfriend who will let me work when I need to. Woot for progress!
